Wedding
Manolis & Christina
A wedding in white naval uniform

The groom's patent shoes were waiting on the wooden floor, polished so well they reflected the two shield shaped cufflinks resting on top of them. This was Manolis and Christina's day, and Manolis was not going to wear a suit: he married in his white naval officer's uniform, gold stripes on the shoulders.
The church was covered in frescoes from floor to ceiling, with a large chandelier hanging in the middle. As the wedding crowns were exchanged above their heads, Christina held her bouquet of white roses, and a row of men in white uniforms stood beside them. I also caught the moment the priest touched Manolis's forehead to make the sign of the cross.
Outside, among the trees, an officer in a peaked cap and white gloves raised his sword over the groom. Manolis smiled with his head bowed, and the guests around already had their phones up, which is fair enough: you do not see that at every wedding.
On the beach, with the sea and the mountains behind them, Christina sat on Manolis's knee and her dress spread out over the sand. She held his face in her hand, he had closed his eyes, and her hair fell across his white uniform.
