Martha & Giannis

A winter wedding from Chaidari to Peristeri

The bride and groom kiss under the trees, her bouquet of red roses held between them.

Martha and Giannis got married on 2 January, and the day began in two homes at opposite ends of Attica: Martha's in Elefsina and Giannis's in Vyronas. For the team that meant a bit more coordination than usual. By the end of the day, though, everything had gone without the slightest problem, which is what counts.

The dress hung in front of the curtains, its beaded bodice catching the light from the window. Giannis had chosen a burgundy velvet jacket with a matching bow tie, and before leaving, a man in a dark suit helped him put on his watch.

The church was Agios Christoforos in Chaidari. A red carpet ran down the marble steps, and an arch of red and white flowers framed the door. Giannis waited at the bottom of the stairs holding a bouquet of red roses. Once Martha arrived, they kissed under the trees, with the roses between them.

The reception was at Belvedere in Peristeri. They walked in between two fountains of sparks, both wearing novelty glasses, his helpfully spelling out "GROOM" in case anyone had missed it. Then the dance floor opened, and the last picture I keep is Martha dancing with one arm in the air, Giannis facing her and the guests all around them.
