Angelos & Alexandra

A wedding by the sea on Kythnos

The bride and groom kiss beside a white chapel with a red door, the sea and a hill behind them.

A wooden hanger with the word "Bride" on it, tiny pearls glued around the letters and a white ribbon at the hook. Below it hangs the lace of the dress, embroidered with leaves. That is where I start the story of Alexandra and Angelos, who got married on Kythnos.

Outside, between dry stone walls and white houses on the hillside, a man in a white T-shirt held a hose and gave another man, head bowed, a proper rinse. There are many ways to get ready for a wedding, and this is certainly one of the most refreshing.

At the ceremony, Alexandra held a bouquet of dried grasses and pampas in beige and orange. Wearing the wedding crowns, twisted like rope, she looked down, while the blue embroidery of the priest's vestments slipped into the edge of the frame.

Afterwards the two of them stood on the rocks above the sea, among the dry grass, Angelos in a beige suit and Alexandra smiling at his side. A little further on, next to a white chapel with a red door, they kissed with the sea and the hill behind them, and the wind lifting her hair.
